Obedience Training

Obedience Training

Obedience training is about more than teaching your dog a list of commands. The goal is to build clear communication, reliable responses, and good manners that carry over into your everyday life.

My approach to obedience training is balanced, structured, and practical. I believe dogs need clear expectations, consistent boundaries, and accountability in addition to reinforcement for good behavior. Training isn’t about constantly correcting your dog or constantly rewarding them. It’s about teaching your dog what is expected and giving them clear guidance when they make the wrong choice.

Whether your dog is just getting started with obedience or needs to improve skills they already know, consistent training can make a significant difference.

I offer several obedience training options depending on your goals, your schedule, and how involved you want to be in the training process.

The most comprehensive option

Board & Train provides an intensive training environment where I can work with your dog consistently throughout their stay.

Rather than only working with your dog for an hour at a time, I have the opportunity to reinforce obedience throughout the day and in a variety of situations.

Depending on your dog’s individual needs and training goals, obedience work may include:

• Basic dog obedience training
• Advanced dog obedience training
• Sit, down, and stay
• Place training
• Recall and coming when called
• Leash training and loose leash walking
• Off leash training
• Dogs that pull on leash
• Impulse control and overexcitement
• Door manners
• Waiting and patience
• Jumping on people
• Appropriate greetings
• Focus and engagement
• Obedience around distractions
• Dogs that don’t listen or follow commands
• Stubborn dogs
• Reliable obedience in real world situations

Private Lessons are included after the Board & Train stay is completed.

This is an important part of the training process. When your dog comes home, I want to make sure you know how to maintain the skills we’ve worked on and continue using them consistently in your everyday life.

The goal isn’t simply to train your dog while they are with me. It’s to help you successfully bring that training home.

Learn how to train your dog yourself

Private Lessons allow me to work directly with you and your dog.

This is especially valuable because you’re not just watching your dog learn, you’re learning how to communicate with your dog, establish boundaries, reinforce the right behaviors, and handle situations consistently on your own.

I can teach you how to use obedience in the situations that matter in your everyday life, whether that’s walking your dog, having guests over, managing distractions, or simply getting your dog to listen reliably at home.

Private Lessons can address:

• Basic and advanced obedience
• Leash training and leash pulling
• Recall and coming when called
• Place training
• Sit, down, and stay
• Impulse control and overexcitement
• Door manners
• Jumping on people
• Appropriate greetings
• Focus around distractions
• Dogs that don’t listen
• Stubborn dogs
• Real world obedience
• Reinforcing obedience at home

For owners who want to be actively involved in their dog’s training, Private Lessons can be an excellent standalone option.

Professional training while your dog is in my care

Day Training allows me to work with your dog during the day while you continue with your normal schedule.

I can reinforce obedience, work on specific skills, and provide your dog with additional repetition and practice.

Day Training can be particularly useful for dogs who already have a foundation and need additional consistency, repetition, and reinforcement.

However, professional training is only part of the equation. Your dog still needs you to reinforce what they learn at home.

That’s why Day Training can also be combined with Private Lessons. I work with your dog during the day, while Private Lessons teach you how to maintain and build upon that training yourself.

There isn’t one training option that is right for every dog.

The best approach depends on your dog’s current obedience, your goals, your schedule, and how involved you want to be in the training process.

Board & Train

An intensive training experience followed by Private Lessons after the Board & Train stay, giving you the opportunity to learn how to maintain your dog’s training at home.

Private Lessons

You learn directly from me while working with your dog. This can be an excellent standalone option for owners who want to be actively involved in their dog’s training.

Day Training

I work with your dog while you’re at work or handling your normal schedule. Day Training provides additional repetition and reinforcement and can also be combined with Private Lessons when additional owner instruction would be beneficial.

I don’t believe there is one training technique that works for every dog.

My approach is balanced training, which means using the tools and techniques that are appropriate for the individual dog and situation.

Dogs need to understand both what we want them to do and what we don’t allow. That requires more than rewards alone. It requires structure, boundaries, consistency, and clear communication.

Good behavior should be reinforced, while unwanted behavior needs to be appropriately addressed.

The goal isn’t to make your dog afraid to make a mistake. The goal is to teach your dog to understand expectations, respond to guidance, and make better choices.

Obedience isn’t something that should only exist during a training session.

A dog may perform a command beautifully in a controlled environment but struggle when there are distractions, excitement, or unfamiliar situations.

That’s why consistency matters.

The more consistently your dog receives clear communication, structure, boundaries, and reinforcement, the more reliable those behaviors become.

Professional training can give your dog the skills and understanding they need, but what you do with those skills at home is just as important.

That’s why Private Lessons are included after my Board & Train programs. I don’t want to simply send your dog home after training and leave you to figure out what comes next.

I want to help you understand how to communicate with your dog, reinforce the behaviors we’ve established, and continue building on that progress in your everyday life.

The goal isn’t simply to have your dog listen to me. The goal is to help you have a dog that listens to you.

Reliable obedience means your dog can listen and respond even when life isn’t perfectly controlled.

Depending on your goals, that may mean your dog can:

• Walk calmly on leash
• Come when called
• Hold a stay
• Go to place and settle
• Wait at doors
• Listen around distractions
• Greet people appropriately
• Control their impulses
• Respond to commands in different environments
• Follow direction even when something more exciting is happening
• Make better choices with less constant intervention

The goal is to take obedience beyond the training session and make it part of your dog’s everyday behavior.

Whether your dog needs a basic obedience foundation, additional training, or a more intensive approach, I can help you determine which option makes the most sense.
